LOWER KLAMATH WHITEWATER RAFTING
The Lower Klamath's water flow is fed by the Iron Gate dam in Northern California and flows all the way to the Pacific Ocean which means that there is water in the Klamath River year round. This is the land of Bigfoot, bald eagles, and osprey. We put on the river at Happy Camp in Northern California and head downstream and encounter rapids such as Rattlesnake, Devil's Toenail, and Dragon's Tooth. Beware that the dragon doesn't bite you!
BEAUTIFUL WILD AND SCENIC RIVER
Most of the rapids on this stretch of the Lower Klamath are Class 2 & 3. Dragon's Tooth is a moderate Class 4 rapid and if the little ones want to walk around it there is a safe place to do so. This is a great rafting vacation for a family with kids and anyone else who wants a relaxing Northern California rafting vacation. We'll pass points on the river such as Clear Creek, a beautiful class 3-5 gorge that flows into the Klamath River crystal clear. Where Clear Creek enters the Klamath is considered sacred to the Karok Indians, therefore there is no camping allowed here. At the end of the days of rafting we pull off the river and set up camp on one of the many roomy beaches alongside the river. We'll stop at Ukomon Creek and hike up to Ukonom Falls to the swimming hole which is a must on every Lower Klamath River trip.
INFLATABLE KAYAKING
Inflatable kayaks are a great addition to any Lower Klamath raft trip for the thrill seeker. Paddle an inflatable kayak the entire trip through Class 2 and Class 3 rapids or you can ride in the raft and hop into the inflatable kayak when you would like. You are the captain of your own boat which makes for a thrilling ride! If you would like to add inflatable kayaks to the trip please let us know at the time of your reservation.
THE LOWER KLAMATH VS.
THE ROGUE RIVER
The scenery is amazing on the Lower Klamath River and is in a beautiful wilderness setting. We think the Lower Klamath is just as good or even better than the Wild and Scenic Rogue River. On the Lower Klamath there aren't any bears to worry about like on the Lower Rogue where they are abundant lower in the canyon. We also don't worry about the crowds on the Lower Klamath River because there aren't any. On a summer's day the Lower Rogue River is quite crowded with both commercial and private groups competing for campsites. We know you will enjoy a trip down the Lower Klamath just as much or even more than the Rogue.
Although the Lower Klamath stretch of river is followed by Highway 96, a rural highway, you can hardly tell it's there since it's hidden by the forest most of the trip. The further you travel down the Klamath River towards the coast, the river corridor changes from desert like canyons to lush green forests. Wildlife abounds and you could possibly see bald eagles, black bears, osprey, and otters.
YOUR COMFORT ON AND OFF THE RIVER
We outfit you in the latest rafting gear. The food we serve is healthy and in hearty portions where you're not afraid to go back for seconds followed by yummy desserts. We serve organic food choices whenever possible. If you would like to bring your own camping gear please do so. If you need camping gear we provide camping equipment for a rental fee. Sleep in our comfortable tents and sleeping bags that are laundered after every trip and on our luxuriously comfortable Landing Pads. You'll almost feel like you're sleeping in your bed at home!
Join Kokopelli River Guides for a Lower Klamath "get away from it all" Klamath River rafting vacation. If the Lower Klamath is your first overnight raft trip you'll want to keep coming back year after year! This is definitely one of our favorites!
